Dear Dr. Ehud:
Having reviewed your department's online position announcement for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Creative Writing (#7807), I wanted to send you this brief message with a few questions regarding your posting.
I am interested in applying for a teaching position in your department, though I am not certain that my qualifications and experience meet your requirements for the above mentioned academic opening. Therefore, I would like to offer you a quick summary of my background as a preliminary presentation of my skills as an educator and a writer.
I am currently an English professor at Korea University in Seoul, where I am contracted to teach through the beginning of next summer. I earned a Master's in Teaching from the School for International Training in Vermont in 1999. I have a strong background in teaching, particularly in intercultural settings, and have taught English for approximately two years both in the United States and Overseas.
I thought I would contact you to see if my training and experience qualify me to apply either for the Assistant/Associate Professor position mentioned above, or for any other anticipated openings in your department. If you wish to see a copy of my resume, please let me know and I would be happy to send one to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query. I look forward to hearing from you at your soonest convenience.
Sincerly,
Jane Doe
