The purpose of this study is to confirm that preservation is one of the special fields of librarians and to suggest Korean libraries make systematic efforts to improve preservation activities. Followed the history of creating preservation departments, analyzed the structure of preservation departments in the libraries of North America. This study suggests how to breed up preservation librarian and  strengthen preservation activities in Korean libraries.
