The purpose of this study is to design the work of the systems librarian
working in the university library. Systems librarians are in charge of the library
automation system,which appeared only a short time ago because of the short
history of library automation. And their work is not designed as well as the
work of other librarians to enhance the performance.
The facts analysed by SPSS with the data from 88 systems librarian
showed that work design is needed to improve automation, skill variety, task
significance and feedback from a supervisor. Based on these findings, job design
would be accomplished by combining tasks, forming a natural work unit, establishing
client relationships, vertically loading the job, and opening feedback channels.
